On Monday Peter and Bridgette from Speedheat arrived to begin installing our all-electric radiant floor heating system.
They threaded the wires that were going to be under tile by hand.
They used pre-made mats to go under the wood floors and then covered them with underlayment, which is what you see on the bottom half of this picture:
They are smiling because they have just finished wiring our entire house. And we really enjoyed having them here this week! We can't wait to feel that lovely warmth oozing up between our toes.
Our tile installers began working this week too. The stuff that they have done so far looks wonderfully clean and precise. I'll put up some pictures in a few days.
Tomorrow Doug is going to be levelling the floor in the piano room and I will begin installing the floating wood floor. Our house is getting less and less dusty, which mean less and less vacuuming for me!

You will love those warm floors. I have lived with warm floors and they are wonderful. Back in 1950 my father built us a house with warm-water pipes running through the concrete floor (no basement, one storey) and he used to take naps lying directly on the floor, along one of the pipes.

That's good, because we won't be able to afford a proper bed after all of this is finished! Kidding....well sort of.
Everyone who has had it has said that about the under-floor heat which I guess is why Doug wanted to have it. I'm looking forward to it now too.
